Balaton Thumbprints
Make a batch of Holiday tradition. Let the little ones help by pressing their thumbprints into these cheery cookies.
1 cup Butter, softened 1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed 2--3 Egg yolks, reserve whites 1 tsp. Almond Extract 2 cups Flour 1/2 tsp. Salt 2--3 cups Pecans, finely chopped 2/3 Jar Balaton Butter or Balaton Preserves
Directions:
Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, egg yolks and almond extract. Add flour and salt and mix well to make a stiff dough. Chill. When chilled, remove from refrigerator and form into 40 to 45 balls. Peheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat egg whites slightly. Dip each ball of dough into whites, then roll in chopped nuts. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. With thumb, make a dent in the center of each cookie. Bake 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Reset thumbprint with a small spoon (baby spoon). Fill with Balaton Butter or Balaton Preserves. Bake for another 8 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack.
